Meet Tracy

I have always had a love for art, from coloring books as a child to spending most of my time in the Art Department in high school.  I attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale for one year majoring in Advertising and Illustration but due to the lack of confidence to compete against other artists at the time, I didn’t return.  Instead I headed down the “business” track but , in 1990, I was lured back to art through Decorative Painting. Since then I have been a decorative artist and involved in almost every aspect of the art-form; paint for sale, paint for hire, in-home and mural work, teaching, designing painting patterns and publication. Through Decorative Painting, God gave me my confidence back as an artist and walked me through the steps I needed to grow at a comfortable pace. Because of this, I have enjoyed art more than ever and also enjoy helping to bring out the artist in others.

I paint with acrylic paints, using a mopping technique that allows a soft, blended look to the painting.  It takes time to build the layers of color this way, but I love the end result.  Although I paint a variety of subjects and enjoy that diversity, my favorite painting subject is still-life, or as I like to call them - portraits of things. I like my designs to tell a story or evoke a memory. My painting of an old bicycle is from a bicycle that my girlfriend decorates in her yard each year.  When others see the painting, many remember owning a similar bicycle years ago.

Many of my paintings have some sort of light that "glows" in them, whether candle flames or Christmas lights, I find myself wanting to bring the warmth of light into darkness.

I am basically a "home-body" who loves to be at home with my husband, Vic.  We especially enjoy having coffee together in the morning, sitting on the sun filled back deck in the summer and taking short car rides for photos of scenery and unusual subjects.  We have one son, Alex, and he is my pride and joy and is currently away at College.  I also value my friendships and love having people to my house.  These simple things are the ones that give me inspiration.  I have a small studio in my home, but I am not happy unless I have drawing and painting materials all over the house (especially the dining room table).

Being able to design, paint and enjoy my work is an honor and a blessing. It is so exciting to see how others respond to my artwork and it is always a thrill for me when I receive encouraging emails and notes from those I have never met.  I also have a love for writing. I have a genuine interest in hearing other peoples “life stories” so interviewing and writing profile articles, comes easily for me.   I hope to one day be able to put my painting and writing together in some way......everything is a possibility!

With joy,
Tracy
